A little history

Lake Montriond was formed after a landslide from Nantaux, the peak to the north-west of the lake. Although there is some uncertainty about when this landslide happened (estimates vary from 300-400 years ago to 4500 years ago!) what is certain is that it created a natural dam in the river that ran along the valley floor and soon created the lake we see today. To counter variations in the level of water from spring to autumn, Montriond town hall embarked on the massive task of sealing the lake, in 1990

Walking tour: 2 pedestrian paths allow you to go around Lake Montriond

Under-ice diving: Heading for the hole cut in the thick layer of ice, divers head down into another timeless world where the air bubbles dance away merrily...this is one icy experience to try right away!

Biathlon laser: thanks to 100% secure laser rifles, step into the skin of a true biathlete. With family or friends this activity will make you feel the sensations of shooting and skiing and will make you have an unforgettable moment.

Cross-country skiing: from Lake Montriond to Ardent, practice cross-country skiing for free.  The only sound is the snow sliding away underneath you, creating the ideal opportunity to enjoy this unspoilt and inspiring setting

Balade en raquettes : 3 marked snowshoe trails allowed you to reach Albertand Hamlet and Ardent

How to get to the lake


It is at an altitude of 1072 meters high. You can go by car or a free shuttle service from Morzine and Montriond during the summer
